UNICA: Sugarcane Harvest Ahead of Schedule

Sugarcane Harvest in BrazilThe sugarcane harvest in Brazil’s Center-South is strong this year. So far, in less than two months of the harvest, sugarcane crush reached 73 million tonnes, up 62 percent from 45 million tonnes crushed by this time a year ago, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) said on Monday. The region, which accounts for about 90 percent of Brazil’s cane output, produced 3.14 million tonnes of sugar by May 16, compared with 1.66 million tonnes a year ago. Ethanol output totaled 3 billion liters, up from 1.9 billion liters a year ago, UNICA said in its latest crop report.
